The Altun Ha Belize site was one of the key cities of the Mayan civilization, an important trading post with numerous ceremonial structures, many of which can be seen in their preserved state today.

You’ll be collected early from Belize City for your half-day tour, which begins with a one-hour drive north deep into the jungle. On arrival at Altun Ha, your expert guide will show you around the partially-restored site, explaining what each structure was used for, and its links to other influential Mayan sites, including the mighty Teotihuacan in Mexico. As you continue to explore, you can take in the intricate detailing of the buildings, likely catching sight of the many resident iguanas, sunning themselves around the site.

There are two large plazas - or squares - to discover, after which you can climb to the top of the site’s pyramid, a privilege that is no longer available at most Mayan ruins.
